Yesterday was fun, I was so tired at the end I was a little worried about falling asleep behind the wheel.
I went to Swing Club at 7, good lord it was packed, there had to have been forty people there, which may not sound like much but I attended the winter session which at any time would have a max of twenty dancers. Of the forty of us there were about eleven guys and about five more female leads (myself included). I didn't dance overly much, I was out of practice, but I danced with Melissa and Anika during the lesson part and during the open floor portion I did a turn with most of my friends. MaryAlice, a student with TFYP who was in the play with me, surprised me. I was leaning against the wall watching the other dancers when Duncan and MaryAlice both came at me from either side. I was turning to ask Duncan if he was planning on asking me to dance when MaryAlice: Jess, wanna dance? Me: Uh, actually I think Duncan was just going to ask me. Were you? Duncan: Yes I was planning to. Me: Well come on Darlin', I'll catch you in a bit hun, promise. So I danced with him and tried not to feel guilty about blatantly brushing her off. She caught me not much later when I was coming out of the bathroom. MaryAlice: You don't have a partner so now you have no choice but to dance with me. Me: Of course, shall we? I've become spoiled, I don't really enjoy dancing with newbies, at least not if they aren't friends of mine because I have to stop trying to follow the rhythm and instead spend a song or two teaching them a few simple moves. My first dance of the night was with a new girl who didn't know how to do an inside turn, she had the outside down pat but it kept screwing me up trying to compensate and make it seem like she was doing marvelously. I danced with both of the instructors (we have actual professionals this time), I didn't embarrass myself too badly with the guy. I was sitting on the stack of gym mats that were pushed against the wall, no doubt for combat reasons. This guy who I recognize but I cannot recall from what came to sit next to me, he did that three times and I don't know why. Guy-Teacher-Whose-Name-I-Don't-Know-Yet: What are you doing sitting there you should be dancing. Me: Oh, ok, sure. Wait that was an invitation, right? GTWNIDKY: What? Oh yeah, do you follow or just lead? Me: Both.
I led with the Lady Teacher and I was flattered, about half way through the dance she told me I was a good lead. Me: Why thank you, I'm not used to hearing that. LT: Really, I'm surprised. Me: Well, I mostly dance with amateurs, and they don't really know the difference yet.
After Swing Club was over (and as much fun as I had catching up with friends I was happy it was over, my knee started acting up near the end which is one of the reasons I sat out so many) I headed over to Century to get my ticket for Pirates 2. By the time I got there all but the 12:30 show were sold out. Since I had enough cash in my wallet, and since I've been on a Superman kick the past few days (Oh my god, Christopher Reed is adorable in the original, I can't fault Lois Lane for falling in love with him - he was so charmingly naive and even though I typically dislike 70-80's men he was damn sexy) so I went to see Superman Returns. Ah! They need to make another, Superman as a Daddy! And what's more his kid doesn't look a thing like him, he's red headed and afflicted with everything from asthma to migraines. I never did understand how no one made the connection between Clark Kent and Superman, I mean aside from the glasses, the part/spit curl, and his geek voice they are exactly the same- and they're played by the same man you say, Hmmm. I liked it, we'll end up buying it I have no doubt. Oh! I counted how many times peoples' cells rang. Five. And they all Answered Them! Some didn't even have the decency to whisper, WTF?!
From Superman I went directly to PotC 2. It was packed, I don't think there was an empty seat in the house. The movie was good, all the special effects were very nicely done, and all the reprised rolls were as good as ever. The only thing that pissed me off? SPOLIER ALERT- Elizabeth falls in Love with Jack! I mean, I can't really blame her but what about Will, he's a great guy and he bargained his life to save hers. Ungrateful little . . . grr. Jack was very fun and though there was some light hearted comedy (Tribe Chief, Shooting the Monkey, etc.) how easily he sacrificed everyone to save himself just ticked me off. However the big fight between Norrington, Will and Jack was just wonderful. So many jokes interspersed with some really cool camera work and really fun choreography. I can't wait for the next one. They filmed the second and third movies as one really long shoot so the ending feels like it ought to be a short break before the next one plays but no! we have to wait a whole year. Grrr! Yes, I needs go see it again.
I didn't get into my car until 3:15 and then I had the forty minute drive to look forward to, in an attempt to keep my brain from shutting down I called the only person I thought might be awake. I called Justin in Washington DC, he started the conversation with: Holy Crap! It must be really early where you are. Me: No not really, more like really late. He was getting on the Metro so we only talked for a minute. To stay awake I turned up my CD player and belted out My Fair Lady all the way home (hey, I may be a geek but it kept me from crashing). I finally crawled into bed at four this morning. Now I'm gonna pick out a book (I finished Danse Macabre a few days back - so much sex, very little violence, nothing but sex. And never with the same man twice. Well, never with the exact same combination of men twice) and go to sleep. Night ~J

god damn you. GOD DAMN YOU! you can't spring the reader with a SPOILER ALERT and then totally spoil it. you have to let it sink in, not interrupt a pace just quipping along. And now you've ruined the movie.

thanks.
