(no subject)
Jul. 31st, 2006 11:05 pmI've had a rather long day, I'm sure it's nothing in comparison to many but it was one of the longest I've seen since Ren. Faire. I spent most of my morning either reading or (heaven help me) giving myself the full "spa" treatment. I did everything from soaking my feet, to dying my hair, doing my nails, and exfoliating everything within reason. My bangs are now green, my pores are clear and I find myself in need of some pumice. The afternoon I spent making sandwiches and hunting down hiking supplies.
I met Justin at Wal-Mart since he didn't understand my directions. Every time I see him it makes me giggle a little, he looks like a Beatle with his long-ish (but not really) hair. His new redneck look was not discouraged any by his outfit (a t-shirt, scruffy pants, chunky sunglasses, and an American flag baseball cap he got in D.C.). After exchanging hellos and my being dragged back to his car to listen to an indie/rap song (he’s so thoroughly besotted of anything Indian). We drove up to the trail head and in atypical Hilander style I actually adhered to the lanes (no one does that unless they just moved here or are taking a driving test). He insisted on carrying the bag I packed with our dinners/lunches and other necessities such as extra socks and band aids. We went about an hour and a bit along the trail before stopping and eating. Whenever we’re face to face Justin and I are never wanting for subjects to discuss. It’s always amusing to goad him into doing something; my mother had asked me to call her when we started back so she’d have some idea when to expect me.
Mom: You’re heading back? So soon? You haven’t been out that long.
Me: Justin got tired so we’re calling it good.
Justin (upon hearing this): Now see here Sister, if you wanna go longer we’ll go longer.
Me: *grins* Okay.
We didn’t go too much further, just to the river and back which was only about half an hour away. Over all I thought it was thoroughly pleasant. My brain always feels a little fuller after I spend time with Justin, like hanging out with a Philosophy professor or a religious leader (monk/priest/rabbi/etc.). We have fun but it isn’t mindless silly fun, more educational fun. I am looking forward to spending time with him outside his element; I can only see him loosening up under such circumstances. It ought to be nice for him to be the student for a change (I plan on teaching him how to dance).
It was drizzling by the time we were heading back to the car; my pants were covered in mud from the back of my knees to my ankles. I prefer exercising in the cold and the wet to the hot and humid, you can always put on more layers but there are only so many you can strip off.
Now, if you’ll excuse me I’m gonna go soak in the hot tub. Good Night ~J
