Oct. 29th, 2005 11:54 pmThe dance . . . went well I suppose. I had a good time 'molesting' a few friends of mine as a catholic priest. I behaved very unlady-like at certain points.
Gary, a member of TPC, I don't know what it is about him but I can't stand being in a room smaller than the gym with him. Erin at her bitchiest is more tolerable than this guy. The most annoying thing about him is I can't quite pin down why precisely he irks me so. He's loud, obnoxious, and an asshole, but I have friends who fit that description so why is this guy different? During set up right before the dance I was in the booth messing with the sound levels (a.k.a. playing music I wanted to listen to before the dancers got there), I saw a glass that looked to be filled with booze, after a quick sniff I realized it was a prop. Gary joined me and felt the need to not only point out the cup but to do so by picking it up and then thrusting it at my face in such a way that if liquid had been in it I would have been splashed from bangs to belt. You know how although you know better you jerk back reflexively anyway? I did that when he thrust that cup in my face, he laughed, did it again, I jerked, he laughed some more and did it again. I told him crisply and loudly "You need to be bitch slapped - Hard." "The principal heard you say that." "I don't care, I have a right to say that as a woman." All night I yelled at him for the smallest things, I should have been able to hold my tongue, it wasn't until Anthea gave me an odd look that I realized how inappropriate my anger was. I haven't felt unjustified contempt like this in years, it frightens me.
The dance itself went well I suppose. Milo came for a short time, dressed as a pirate. She didn't dance at all which I found very odd since she used to be the dancing-queen. Ernie came as 'construction duck' which was pretty clever since he came up with it from odd clothing he'd found. He danced like an idiot without any sense of rhythm but it was great fun watching him do it. He lip-synched to himself performing "Tracy" and since Dorothy left and Tracy has graduated no one took offense. Anthea did a great job of Sweet Transvestite, spot on, I wonder who will take her place when she graduates next year. To be honest I spent much of my time in the booth with Anthea, Sky and any other TPC people who wanted to be there. Usually I hate DJing since everyone complains about my taste in music, but three of us looking for things to play was actually damn fun. Oh, rap and any music alluding/promoting sex or violence has been banned from Steller by order of the new principal. We played 'Baby got Back', a dance classic, Sky was looking over the edge of the booth at Eugene (the TPC adult sponsor, or our technical boss) and he said "quick, change it, change it!" We did and then we asked why, he had this smug grin on his face when he explained "Karin [the principal] was going to make Eugene have us change the song but I got it first." All night we were pushing the envelope of what they'd allow us to play (I insisted on plauing Instant Pleasure by Rufus Wainright, I thought I might not get another chance), that and trying desperately to find a copy of "End of the World", we ended up using a crap-tastic cover and got flicked off for it too but it was either that or nothing.
Friday (since it was an in service) I got to sleep in and go to Carbuncle rehearsal at one. I managed to only piss off Erin three times, yay, I'm getting better. The last hour or so of 'practice' was spent by Erin and I explaining Ren. Faire to a cast member who had asked me how to get into it. By the end Erin and I were actually laughing together. That buzz was kinda killed when she borrowed my phone and instead of thanking me handed it back and said, "You need to turn your phone up." Otherwise it went admirably well.
Since she couldn't come to the dance Sierra and I arranged to get together, we ended up having a sleep over at my house (aside from the two days Jenny spent with me this summer she was my first guest since I was twelve). When I went to pick her up she offered to treat me to dinner at Garcia's, I was sorely tempted but I had just left my dinner to get her, plus I didn't want her to waste her money on me. We compromised by eating dessert there and getting her a dinner to go. Mmmm, flan. I showed her around my house (feeling embarrassed at how dirty it is but proud of it anyway, it is my home). We soaked in the hot-tub for a bit and then curled up in my four-poster to watch the pilot of 'Dead Like Me' (during which I fell asleep, it was two AM by then). We went to sleep after that. Spooning felt a little awkward since I didn't know how close I could hold her and I was on the wrong side of the bed, plus her body heat in combination to the two down blankets I have on my bed had me boiling in minutes. For an insomniac she slept awfully late, I was happy she could sleep at all, I worry for her. After a brunch of grilled cheese sandwiches Mom and I took her to work on base. We went shopping at Dimond before going home to Kung Pao and 'Nightmare before X-Mas'. Memory is a funny thing, I had thought Nightmare was better than Corpse Bride, the music is better but I personally like Bride best. The animation has improved in twelve years and I like the character Victor a lot (Mmm, Johnny Depp) he's quirky and awkward and so sweet you just wanna keep him as a pet.
I think that cover it. Fuzz ~J
